GOOD DESIGN - NOW

Magistrates Court, Ashton under Lyne (Close to M60 access)

The Magistrates’ Court building in Henry Square is a prime example of the careful design of new buildings in Tameside, which remain in keeping and compliment their surroundings.

Situated in a conservation area, the new court building was designed to relate to the existing georgian square.

The new building is sufficiently imposing to enhance the western approaches to the town centre. The exterior reflects the engineering brick and banded stonework of the nearby baths, and the large-scale oriel windows similar to those at the 19th Century Central Library, which is nearby.

The result is a mature and dignified appearance in keeping with its setting.
