Economic Development Zone PARTNERSHIP: Tameside Economic Development Zone Supported by £7.1m European Regional Development Fund, from Priority Three, Strategic Regional Investment funds, the EDZ represents one of only 15 such zones in the North West. The funding will be used to support key sites and is expected to lever in £50m investment over a six year period. Vision: The Tameside EDZ holds a strategic position within the Greater Manchester conurbation. It forms an eastern extension of New East Manchester. It occupies a gateway position with key transport links between Merseyside, Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire and onwards to the western European port of Rotterdam and the North European Trade Axis It forms an investment corridor around the newly completed M60 which offers rapid access to the national motorway network. It contains Ashton Moss, Parkway and Eastern Approach, three strategic regional development sites. It will benefit from improved public transport through completion of the Metrolink network through New East Manchester to Ashton-under-Lyne via Droylsden, by 2007. Greater
Manchester Public Transport: PARTNERSHIP: Tame Valley Partnership Linking Life Chances with Brownfield Sites - SRB6 Programme In 2000, the Tame Valley Partnership secured £8million Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) funding for a six-year programme entitled Linking Life Chances and Brownfield Development. The funding secured will allow the Tame Valley Partnership to bring forward development of brownfield sites that have been neglected by the market.

Masterplan is in development and details can be obtained from: The aim of both is to stimulate private investment by giving residents, developers, housing associations and financial institutions confidence in the future of these areas. The plans include commercial, industrial and residential areas and are steered by the Ashton Renewal Area Partnership and Hattersley Development Trust. Portland Basin, Ashton-under-Lyne The regeneration of Portland Basin, the Ashton canal basin, along with Henry Square, forms an important part of the Ashton Town Centre Strategy. Development has been promoted by the Council with a consultancy study and the re-construction of the Portland Basin Heritage Centre with integral residential accommodation. The aspiration is for a mixed-use development and proposals for further canal side residential uses. In terms of end use, the area could form part of a cultural centre, with a canal theme.

PARTNERSHIP: Groundwork Green Business Park Environmental improvements have been promoted by the Tame Valley Partnership, and enhanced by the launch of the Groundwork Green Business Park scheme, on 25th April 2002. The Green Business Park will introduce a series of environmental improvements.
Tameside's canal network represents an ideal opportunity for sensitive canal-side development. £Millions have been invested restoring the canals for their new leisure and recreational uses. The restoration of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal through Stalybridge has won a Civic Trust Award and there are opportunities in Droylsden, Hyde and Ashton-under-Lyne associated with the canal network. |
